Work from Paros Poetry and Translation Symposium 2019: Zhang Er

Female Codon

Uniform from head to toe
you in black weary of the barren
rise from the bottomless core of your flow
for a long long time

We always young and always worried about you
running among the snow flakes in the streets hawking
steaming dumplings and frozen porridge
for a long long time

Absorbed in bearing the single child
bawling at the emptied square, no roadblock
here, trees should here, wind should
for a long long time

Squatting in the garden smoking then sat inside
talking about your lineage and ordinates
watching your slender tips once more
soaked in ink

Zhang Er
